The Impact of Digitization On The IT Industry

IDC revealed its top 10 predictions for the IT industry for 2021, which have largely been impacted by the ongoing pandemic.

Digital growth is at the forefront of these changes, and according to the IDC report, 65% of the global GDP will be digitized by 2022.

“The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted that the ability to rapidly adapt and respond to unplanned/unforeseen business disruptions will be a clearer determiner of success in our increasingly digitalized economy,” said Rick Villars, group vice president of IDC. “A large percentage of a future enterprise’s revenue depends upon the responsiveness, scalability, and resiliency of its infrastructure, applications, and data resources.”

The report revealed cloud-centric models will be necessary for companies to maintain competitiveness. Even more, IDC anticipates that 80% of enterprises will make the moves to shift to a cloud-centric infrastructure by the end of next year.

Additionally, the report expects that 75% of Global 2000 companies will focus on ensuring that their workplaces are equipped with right technology that supports a hybrid work arrangement over the next three years. This means the workforce will have the ability to become more flexible, agile and collaborative.

One of the main focuses of IT organizations moving forward will be to easily adapt and adjust their operations in case of another disruption like the ongoing pandemic. By 2022, IDC predicts that companies who do so will be able to adapt to obstacles 50% faster that those who try to remedy existing operations.
