The office is expected to undergo major changes in the coming months. As we enter the era of strict cleanliness, leaving areas of the workspace unsanitized will no longer be acceptable. In a normal office with shared amenities, germs and bacteria are easily transmitted.
With coronavirus continuing to threaten the safety and health of workers all over the world, companies need to rethink their strategies when welcoming them back into the office.
Desks and desk items are likely the main culprit of spreading bacteria. Things like computer keyboards and telephones are unsurprisingly riddled with germs, particularly if you work out of a shared workspace.
There are a few ways that companies and workers can ensure that their workspace is safe for themselves and their coworkers. A study revealed that 25% of office workers admitted not to washing their hands after using the bathroom, so putting signage up to emphasize the importance of hand-washing is essential. Washing and sanitizing hands before eating and using anti-bacterial wipes on desk surfaces are just a few ways to prevent the spread of viruses.
Additionally, keeping the office fridge clean is a must. Encourage colleagues to make sure they clean out any expired food and maintain sanitation practices when utilizing the fridge.
Companies should also implement strict practices to keep their workers safe, such as avoiding door handles and other high-contact areas, as well as encouraging employees to use sanitation stations often.
