WeWork has had another round of layoffs in the UK as it works to restructure its business in July.
Over 50% of the company’s community managers and community leaders were told their last day would be on June 30 earlier this week. The layoffs will reportedly impact 82 employees in the community team, and sources say that more cuts will be made to the design, IT, sales, events, talent acquisition and New Member Development teams.
The sources also revealed that around 200 roles within WeWork London could be impacted by this restructure.
Part of the restructure will include portfolio directors taking responsibility for more buildings. The company also has plans to centralize the billing and sale functions, as well as eight community managers being in charge of 14 WeWork HQ buildings.
A spokesperson for WeWork said the realignment of functions and teams is part of a five-year plan to reach profitability.
“The idea is that they will save as much as possible. But we have had so many complaints from members already. The volume of what they have to do is far too much,” the source says. “I love the people I work with but I think the way the London strategy has been handled is inefficient. It’s up to the teams to keep everything afloat while senior management has lost its mind.”
