Former WeWork Executives Launch New Coworking Company
Bisnow reported this week that Joel Steinhaus and Doug Chambers, former WeWork executives, have launched Daybase, a network of on-demand work spots. Steinhaus and Chambers “characterize Daybase as a hybrid between a centralized workplace where everyone goes all the time and the isolation of working at home all the time.” Daybase is also considering setting up operations in the suburbs.
Tishman Speyer Grows Its Coworking Brand, Studio
Tishman Speyer announced this week that it is expanding its coworking brand’s footprint in New York City. The company will bring Studio to a former WeWork location in Varick Street. The second new location will be opened at 11 West 42nd Street. Combined, the new locations will add 350,000 square feet of space to Studio’s footprint. Tishman Speyer launched Studio back in 2018 in the hopes of competing with the likes of Industrious, Knotel, and WeWork.
The Wing Is Ready to Re-Open
The Wing announced via Instagram this week that it will be reopening next week, starting with one of its Manhattan locations. Shortly after the post went live, Boss Betty reported that “amid the heart emojis in the comments, the long-standing accusations of a toxic work environment at the women’s coworking and networking club began to pile up.” In March of 2020, allegations of racism and discrimination were made against The Wing and its leaders. The coworking company faced significant backlash that led Audrey Gelman, co-founder and CEO, to step down. Since then, The Wing has tried to rehabilitated its reputation, but concerns still remain.
