Companies large and small are navigating what the workplace will look like now that vaccinations are becoming more accessible to workers. For many, this means introducing new practices and concepts that make the office as safe, healthy, innovative and creative as possible.
Companies such as Spotify, Salesforce and Okta have been one of many organizations that are currently working to reconfigure their workspaces in a way that makes it comfortable and functional for employees who will eventually return to the office.
For instance, Salesforce’s 40% reduction in desks aims to build more room for collaboration through booths, cafes, communal tables, couches and mobile audiovisual equipment that allows teamwork to happen virtually anywhere.
Additionally, Salesforce and Spotify are both pivoting to team-focused “neighborhoods” that feature furniture and spaces that are built for collaborative and individual work, rather than incorporating a large number of desks.
Technology will also play a significant role in the future of the workplace. For Okta, the firm is collecting data to understand exactly how their spaces are being used and make any necessary improvements.
“Think of it like a net over the top of the space,” said Samantha Fisher, head of dynamic work at Okta. “Each of those data points tells a story about how a particular space or work point is being used.”
