As cases of the Delta variant spike across parts of the world, initial return-to-office plans are proving to be a challenge.
For instance, Google has pushed their return-to-work date back multiple times since the beginning of the pandemic. The company originally wanted workers back in the office as early as May 2020. Now, the company’s WFH policy has been pushed to mid-October.
Moving forward, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has revealed that all employees working on a Google campus will need to be vaccinated. However, it is still untelling what the company’s approach in terms of unvaccinated employees will be after October 18.
“We’re rolling this policy out in the U.S. in the coming weeks and will expand to other regions in the coming months,” Pichai wrote on the Google Keyword blog. “The implementation will vary according to local conditions and regulations, and will not apply until vaccines are widely available in your area.”
Pichai added that those with special exceptions, such as medical reasons, will have expanded work options that will allow them to apply for remote working until the end of the year.
