New data from Glassdoor shows that interest in remote working positions has accelerated despite some companies bringing their employees back into the office.
According to Glassdoor’s findings, online job searches for remote positions across various industries accelerated 460% from June 2019 to June 2021.
Although interest seems to have tapered off recently, levels remain high, which indicates that this is a long-lasting trend.
“It hasn’t just been a spike and then a decline afterward,” said Daniel Zhao, senior economist at Glassdoor.
Pushing this demand is likely the fear of in-person work, especially as cases of Covid-19 surge again across many regions. Although many of these cases are tied to unvaccinated individuals, concerns over the spread are leading employees to seek out remote positions.
Still, just 3% of all job search activity was for remote positions in June 2021. However, the interest may be higher since this data focuses on strictly remote work and not hybrid arrangements that have spiked in popularity in recent months.
