Eleven team members from UK flexible business space provider, BizSpace, completed this year’s JLL Property Triathlon North, raising more than £7,500 for charities.
The ‘sprint’ distance triathlon at MediaCityUK, Salford, attracts property professionals from throughout the country.
BizSpace CEO Gareth Evans was delighted to beat his target time, finishing the 23.75 km course in 1:29.25. And North East cluster manager Lisa Taylor, taking part in only her second triathlon, smashed her previous year’s time by 18 minutes to finish in just under two hours.
Another nine members from the BizSpace team throughout the UK took part in the relay events, making this the firm’s largest ever number of participants. For many it was their first triathlon.
Swimming in the quay were North East asset manager, Victoria Rea, property director David Guest and Albion Mills Business Centre manager Debbi Gillham. Cycling the 18 km route were North West regional sales manager Paul Ogle, Empress Business Centre manager Simon Fennell and regional sales manager for the North, Steve Moody. And running the final element of the course were North West asset manager, Richard Stivaros, head of credit control Travis Brown and PR manager, Natasha Wright of Wyldfire PR. All were joined by plenty of colleagues and supporters from BizSpace.
Between them participants raised £6,500 for the Alzheimer’s Society and £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support, which will specifically go towards a new scanning machine at Tameside Hospital.
Debbi commented: “This was my first triathlon event and first ever open water swim, so I’m very pleased I got around! Although it was a good time, I’m hoping to smash that next year.”
Steve added: “There was real sense of team work and it was great to have so many people supporting each other, giving us all an extra burst of energy when we were competing.
“For me, it was a first attempt at a triathlon and I was so pleased to complete the cycle under 45 minutes, especially as I hadn’t managed to get any training in beforehand! I am definitely tempted by the full event next year.”
Commercial Director Emma Long said: “Well done to everyone who took part and raised so much cash for wonderful causes.
“This is our third time competing and the triathlon organisers always make sure it’s a fantastic and well-run event. It’s a fun and friendly way to introduce people to triathlon competitions and so many people who take part become hooked!”
