In 2010, Hawaii had only one coworking space called BoxJelly in Kakaako, but now O’ahu is seeing a huge growth in coworking spaces.
The island is seeing a spike in collaborative workspaces with offices like Impact Hub in Kaka‘ako, Treehouse Coworking in Kailua, MyGoCenter in Kapolei, along with BoxJelly itself in a new location.
Globally, coworking spaces has grown tremendously and have show no signs of slowing down thanks to affordable, flexible spaces that everyone from startups to corporations find useful.
Coworking gives members a sense of community, low rent, and short-term leases that a traditional office space don’t offer.
CBRE, one of the world’s largest real estate firm, is delving into coworking in a big way. The firm has created a division called Hana made specifically to compete with coworkings biggest names such as WeWork and IWG.
