The sudden shift to working from home has left many parents frustrated and struggling to balance work responsibilities and parental duties. If this is your first time working from home, there are ways to make the most out of your space with minimum distractions.
First, create a space that is specifically designated for work. This creates a sense of organization, professionalism and maintains boundaries between you and others in your home during work hours.
Additionally, curating a schedule a day in advance can help you juggle various responsibilities, such as helping your children with school work. Create the schedule so there is a starting and stopping time in order to keep you on task and minimize distractions that can be caused at home. This also means showering and getting dressed each morning, preparing for work and following scheduled breaks. Keeping such a routine is essential, but it is alright to allow yourself flexibility to make time for personal responsibilities throughout the day.
Younger children may have more difficulty grasping why you need to devote portions of your day to work even though you are at home, so it is important to sit them down and explain the importance of working, scheduling and how they can help maintain a routine.
