What’s going on:

Amazon is planning to expand its presence in the U.K. by leasing space from WeWork. The space will accommodate around 1,000 employees, according to Bloomberg.

The company has agreed to a deal with WeWork to occupy three floors in one of its buildings in London, marking its latest move to increase its operations in the country. The space is about 70,000 square feet and has recently been refurbished by WeWork, according to The Business Times.

Why it matters:

Amazon striking a deal with WeWork reflects the increasing demand for flexible office spaces in the U.K. Coworking space companies are slowly turning into a preferred choice for established companies seeking new kinds of office solutions.

This shows that Amazon is growing its investment and expansion in the U.K. By securing additional workspace, the tech company is demonstrating its commitment to growing its workforce and operations in the region.

How it’ll impact the future:

Amazon’s decision to choose WeWork as a workspace provider reflects a certain level of confidence in WeWork’s offerings and services. This validation from a prominent and reputable company like Amazon could boost WeWork’s standing in the coworking industry slightly and enhance its credibility as a reliable provider of flexible workspaces.

The partnership between Amazon and WeWork also represents the growing trend of large corporations leveraging flexible office spaces. This trend could further influence the commercial real estate market and the way smaller companies approach their workspace needs. Additionally, this move reinforces London’s goals for further attracting talent and investments.
