Marcelo Claure, chief operating officer of SoftBank, will reportedly step down from the Japanese conglomerate that helped infuse billions into WeWork.

According to the reports, Claure has been in talks to resign from his role at SoftBank for multiple months in anticipation of launching his own investment firm. It is also being reported that disagreements in compensation with SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son has led Claure to step down.

News outlets are reporting that Claure wanted a $2 billion compensation from SoftBank for helping breathe new life into WeWork, which went public via merging with special purpose acquisition company BowX Acquisition Corporation last fall.

Claure was at the forefront of WeWork’s tumultuous fall from grace. After WeWork cofounder Adam Neumann was pushed out of the coworking firm, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son enlisted the help of Claure to help revitalize the company’s reputation and business.
