There are flexible workspaces in many pockets across the US, but the growth of hybrid working has led to another new trend: renting out homes as workspaces.

Taking a dash of Airbnb’s model, Dan Hillman created Jarvo, a startup that aims to collect a network of flexible workspaces across the UK to reach to these newfound flexible workers.

Yardi Kube automates flex and coworking operations

The company, which is expected to launch this summer, will have partnerships with traditional coworking operators like The Office Group, while also showcasing unused areas in public spaces.

However, the startup’s main focus is offering workspaces within people’s homes.

“I don’t live centric to a city, so for me to go to a coworking space… that would mean half an hour commute by train or car, paying for parking to then go and use a coworking space,” said Hillman.

Homeowners that use Jarvo will be able to list space in their homes if they meet certain requirements, such as reliable WiFi, ergonomic furniture, plug outlets, and chargers.

Hosts will have the power to set their rate, with Jarvo offering guidance based on local data. From there, users will have the ability to review the workspace.

Jarvo is aiming to target 20,000 workspaces over the next year, and Hillman wants to focus on creating a truly community-driven environment.

“For us, the story isn’t about scaling to get as many workspaces as possible,” said Hillman. “It’s about building that community, build those raving fans that absolutely adore Jarvo.”
