Ride sharing company Lyft has announced that most employees will have the chance to work and live based on their own preference.

According to Kristin Sverchek, president of business affairs at Lyft, the “fully flexible workplace” strategy will help employees choose their own work style in an effort to attract and retain staff.

“We also wanted to create a strategy that was simple and doesn’t add burdensome process for managers or team members. In general, team members won’t need permission to relocate within the country,” said Sverchek. “Managers will keep their teams on the same page with written norms that guide general expectations, team culture, and the cadence of in-person gatherings.”

Once a quarter, the company will host team gatherings in person, but these will still remain optional. Employees will also have the option to come into Lyft’s offices as little or as much as they please.

“We think that spending time in the office is a valuable part of Lyft’s culture and we’ve found that thoughtful and intentional interaction is key to our success,” said Ashley Adams, a spokesperson for Lyft.
