Amazon Faces Accusations Of Defying California Reimbursement Laws In New Lawsuit

A lawsuit in California has been filed against Amazon, alleging the company has violated state law by not reimbursing remote employees for expenses like internet, cell phone bills, and more.

According to Amazon employee David Williams, he and other staff members had to use their personal phones, electricity, and internet in order to work remotely. The lawsuit says this violates a California law that requires employers to reimburse employees for work-related expenses.

The Private Attorney General Act (PAGA) states that workers can sue on behalf of the state and keep one-quarter of penalties they receive.

Last week, the case moved to a California federal court after Williams added claims on behalf of all California-based Amazon remote employees.

Craig Ackermann of Ackermann & Tilajef, the lawyer representing Williams, says that other lawsuits have been filed against over 20 companies for similar allegations.

According to Ackermann, most employers have settled their cases and agreed to provide remote workers with stipends of up to $83 per month.
