No longer do people have to make a living by working traditional 9 to 5 schedules. Now, workers have more choice than ever to work when, where and how they please. 

The rise of the freelancer and gig economies means companies have to do more to entice this voluntary workforce to participate in their operations.

As a result, companies are being forced to try new methods of getting workers’ attention through their benefits and amenities. Once their interest is piqued, leaders have to ensure that these professionals remain engaged and motivated to continue working for their company.   

One method of doing so comes from the gamification of the employee experience. Utilizing tools that make projects more game-like can lead to increased levels of focus and learning. With each accomplishment, workers can feel like they are leveling up and are more eager to challenge themselves.

From there, companies should find methods of driving behavior change in a way that improves workplace performance. For instance, a retail worker may receive push notifications to their device encouraging them to meet their weekly sales goal.   

By providing small, achievable tasks to workers, they are more likely to feel a sense of achievement and not be overwhelmed by their overall workload.
