Interest in Remote Work Opportunities is Growing Beyond the Home Office

What’s going on:

A study by Flexa Careers reveals the percentage of job seekers interested in “work from anywhere” roles rose to 88% in June from 80% in April, according to CNBC. However, these roles have become increasingly scarce and competitive — representing only 5% of all remote positions. Flex Careers used its data to identify the most in-demand work-from-anywhere jobs by analyzing its database for the first half of 2023.

CNBC reports that the top 10 “most in-demand work-from-anywhere jobs” are:

  1. Accountant
  2. Business development manager
  3. Copywriter
  4. Customer success representative
  5. Editor
  6. Engineering Manager
  7. Marketing Manager
  8. Product Manager
  9. Senior Product Designer
  10. Software Engineer

FlexJobs also noted that more specialized industries are increasingly offering these remote roles. Areas such as education and bilingual-focused careers were reported as expanding their work-from-anywhere offerings. However, project management, HR, and recruiting have seen a decline in these kinds of flexible work opportunities.

Why it matters:

There’s a high desire, from employees across many different fields, for greater work-life balance and flexibility that extends beyond the traditional remote work model. The expansion of these opportunities in different industries reflects the broader adoption of this flexible and remote work environment across a diverse number of fields.

How it’ll impact the future:

As the demand for remote and hybrid roles increases in the labor market, it’s likely that more industries will start exploring these models to keep up with attraction and retention efforts. Work from anywhere trends could potentially transform the conventional employment structure, especially as more companies step up efforts to recruit international talent. This could lead to an increased focus on remote infrastructure, an emphasis on managing globally dispersed teams, and a reassessment of regulations that dictate where companies can hire and do business.
