Nepal is preparing to introduce a digital nomad visa within a year, allowing remote workers to stay long-term and access local services. The five-year, multiple-entry visa will be offered to individuals earning over $1,500 monthly or holding at least $20,000 in savings. Applicants must also have $100,000 in health insurance coverage valid in Nepali hospitals, according to The Kathmandu Post.ย

Visa holders will be allowed to live in Nepal for a minimum of one year at a time, open local bank accounts, and transfer savings abroad if they exceed $50,000. Those staying over 186 days per year will pay a 5% income tax.

The policy also permits digital nomads to buy and register vehicles and use their foreign driving licences locally. Several ministries will coordinate implementation, with infrastructure support from both the public and private sectors.

The government aims to attract high-earning remote workers by improving internet connectivity and coworking spaces. Tourism officials believe Nepalโ€™s culture, climate, and lifestyle make it an ideal destination for digital professionals.
