The index assessed factors including internet quality, taxation, cost of living, healthcare, and safety. The UAE’s performance highlights its focus on long-term digital strategy over short-term tourism gains.

The country introduced a remote work visa in 2021, offering a renewable one-year residency for individuals employed by companies abroad. Programs like Abu Dhabi’s Virtual Working Programme and Dubai’s Remote Work Visa followed, supporting the growth of a remote workforce.

Dubai is currently ranked the top city worldwide for remote work, while Abu Dhabi holds fourth place, according to RemoteWork360.

Globally, an estimated 40 million people now identify as digital nomads. Remote work is projected to continue expanding, with forecasts suggesting up to one billion remote workers by 2035.

The UAE’s infrastructure, legal framework, and lifestyle offerings have positioned it as a leading destination in this growing sector.
