TikTok is preparing to end hybrid work for most of its U.S. employees, with a five-day office requirement set to begin in September, according to three staffers who spoke to Business Insider.
The policy will affect employees who currently work from home at least one day a week. Some teams already follow a five-day schedule, meaning the change will not apply equally across the company.
TikTok Has Been Preparing For The Change
The return-to-office push has been in development for months. In December, TikTok told employees across teams including product, marketing and advertising sales to prepare for a full return to the office in 2026.
Employees in TikTok Shop’s e-commerce division have already been working from the office five days a week for more than a year.
TikTok operates offices in roughly a dozen U.S. cities, including New York, Austin, Los Angeles and Chicago, and employs thousands of workers in the country.
TikTok Joins A Growing Five-Day RTO Group
The move puts TikTok alongside other major technology companies that have increased office requirements.
Instagram and Amazon require many employees to work in the office five days a week. YouTube and Patreon have maintained three-day hybrid schedules.
Other companies continue to take a more flexible approach. Spotify has kept its flexible work policy, while Dropbox’s new co-CEO Ashraf Alkarmi has said the company will remain virtual-first.
