Deskmag’s Coworking Survey Closes Today, Here’s What You Need To Know

Opened on November 9th, Deskmag’s sixth coworking survey is set to close today (December 16th).

The coworking survey has become key in understanding the coworking movement and what workspace users expect of workspace providers. The survey provides valuable data that can help coworking operators improve on their offerings and services.

Although the survey closes today, Deskmag revealed some of its first findings during Coworking Europe on November 28th. While we all sit tight for the rest of the results to be published, here’s a recap of what you need to know.

  • As of October 31, 2016,  there are 11,300 coworking spaces worldwide.
  • As of October 31 there were 2,600 new coworking spaces opened in 2016.
  • Deskmag predicts 2,500 new coworking spaces will open by October 31, 2017
  • Most members describe their coworking spaces as ‘casual’
  • 29% of participating coworking spaces say they don’t need to be on their own in order to run the entire business successfully
  • Facebook, email newsletters, and Twitter are the tools mostly used to promote a coworking space
  • Collaboration in coworking spaces is based on small tasks
  • On average, members speak with 5.2 fellow coworkers per day
  • Word of mouth is the leading form of marketing to attract new members
  • 71% of members work at least 3 times a week from their coworking space
  • 67% of coworking operators plan to expand their brand in some way or another
  • 74% of coworking members plan to remain for at least one year in their current coworking space in 2017, a drop from 83% in 2016.
