The State Library in Victoria is getting a facelift in order to better suit the needs of locals by including a coworking space, family-friendly activities, and more.
Anna Burkey, head of StartSpace that will open in the library in 2020, said that this move makes the most sense as almost 15% of visitors use libraries as a workspace.
“People have always used the space in this way,” said Burkey. “Libraries provide two things: access to fiction and storytelling; and access to fact and non-fiction, how-to books, and all that kind of thing.”
Burkey said that this location will be the only library-coworking hybrid that will also offer business training.
StartSpace will feature about 178 seats for free, with paid smaller spaces made for businesses who want to continue scaling up. It will also be open 70 hours a week in order to attract a wide variety of entrepreneurs.
