Automation Means More Jobs

Automation Means More Jobs

Automation has seeped into various aspects of the workforce in recent years, making certain jobs and positions obsolete.

According to the Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE), millions of professionals lost their jobs during the initial wave of Covid-19, and again during the second major wave in April 2021.

Although some workers are returning to the workplace, some jobs may never come back dueto companies implementing more technology and automation to stay afloat.

However, this doesn’t mean that jobs replaced by automation are going to eliminate job opportunities. Instead, new jobs that require higher-level thinking will emerge.

“In our industry, what we see is not a replacement but the addition of skills due to automation, especially in areas related to digital, e-commerce, AI, machine learning, among others,” said Sameer Wadhawan, Head of Human Resources at Samsung India. “This would mean companies need to focus more on upskilling as well as reskilling of its workforce across levels, ramping up their capability-building efforts.”

According to LinkedIn’s emerging jobs in India 2021 report, the top in-demand jobs in the coming years will include blockchain developer, AI specialist, robotic process automation consultant and more.

In short, rather than this technology taking jobs away, new jobs that allow professionals to work alongside automation will grow.
