October 2018 — In response to increasing demand for high-quality premium office space in Singapore, JustCo today announces that it has secured a lease for a space at China Square Central, targeted to open in Q4 2019. Located on 18 Cross Street, the building will undergo an extensive renovation which will transform the face of the property. Positioned as a mixed-use complex, the building features premium commercial retail, office space and an all-new hotel residence – Capri by Fraser, China Square, scheduled to open by Q1 2019.
As one of the project’s anchor tenants, JustCo will occupy the entire 2nd floor. This new opening is in addition to JustCo’s current portfolio of thirteen centres in Singapore, offering JustCo members an array of flexible options for all their workspace needs.
Demand for coworking and shared workspace remains strong in the city, with co- working tenants willing to rent spaces in areas not traditionally dominated by commercial real estate, such as Orchard Road.
Founder and CEO of JustCo, Mr. Kong Wan Sing highlights, “We continue to explore opportunities which add to the range of options in our portfolio. We believe that the traditional commercial real estate model where each area was defined prevalently by one activity, residential, commercial or retail, will not hold. Today, the mobile millennial workforce want to work, live and play in the same area. We are the first shared workspace operator to locate one of our centres inside a retail mall, at Marina Square. At that time, few believed it was possible. Today it is the norm.”
JustCo members at China Square Central will be able to enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, flexible leasing terms and a variety of meeting and entertainment areas, in addition to a large community of talented and like-minded individuals and businesses, where they can fully harness the effect of co-working by seeking new connections and explore new business opportunities through social and professional events organised by JustCo. The space will feature a large event space with a platform stage, pop-up display corners for members to showcase their products, spacious hot and dedicated desk areas, bespoke suites, a JustBrew cafe and a collaboration and games corner.
The aesthetics of the space will take cultural and characteristic references from its neighbourhood Chinatown, one of the oldest and most distinct areas in Singapore. For example, metal work reminiscent of retro metal gates as seen in gated shophouses, and wireframe structures with plants winding around them will link the various spaces within the new centre and act as a visual cue for wayfinding.
“China Square Central is a beautiful property which will undergo extensive renovation to modernise its facilities, thus we are very excited to be part of this large urban renewal project that will transform Chinatown. We believe that our members will embrace this project and we believe the new JustCo at China Square Central will be the catalyst for building a strong community of creative companies and start-ups in the area. China Square Central is the first project we are launching in a building owned by one of our investors, Fraser, who is supporting us in growing the JustCo brand in Singapore and the rest of Asia, with the aim of opening 100 centres by 2020”, Mr Kong Wan Sing added.
“It is the first of a series of projects we are exploring with Fraser, following their financial investment in JustCo in May 2018. Their strategic support will be instrumental in helping JustCo achieve a dominant position in Asia.”
In addition to the new centre at China Square Central in Singapore, JustCo continues its Asia expansion with the launch of Bangkok’s 3rd centre, Samyan Mitrtown in Q4 2019, and with new openings planned in Jakarta, Seoul, Sydney, Melbourne, Taipei, Shanghai and other Asian cities. In Singapore, JustCo responded to the increasing demand in coworking space in 2018 with the opening of two of its newest co-working spaces in July at retail mall Marina Square, and iconic historic building MacDonald House.
