The Flatiron Writers Group are launching a niche coworking space that is set to open in March and will give writers access to workshops, writing-related gatherings, lectures and author events.

The company also has numerous events planned for the new year including a short story workshop and classes that hopes to inspire, motivate and help kickstart writers.

This weekend, the annual Pop-Up Writing Retreat will take place and allows writers to network with one another as well as provide uninterrupted writing time.

“We don’t give [participants] the Wi-Fi password,” said Maggie Marshall, co-founder of the Flatiron Writers Room. “We ask them to turn off their cellphones and hide them. We enable them to write any way we can.”

Networking was a key factor in creating the new coworking space. Co-founder Heather Newton said that giving writers the opportunity to have a sense of community and meet fellow creatives can combat the loneliness that often comes with writing.

Set to open in March, the three-room West Asheville location can hold up to 12 writers at a time and will provide free Wi-Fi, coffee and discounts to future workshops.
