OpenAI is developing an AI-driven hiring service aimed at matching workers with employers, positioning the company as a direct competitor to LinkedIn. The new platform, called the OpenAI Jobs Platform, is expected to launch by mid-2026, according to Tech Crunch.
Announced by OpenAI’s CEO of Applications Fidji Simo, the service will leverage artificial intelligence to connect businesses with candidates based on needs and qualifications. A specific focus will be placed on making the platform accessible to small businesses and local governments seeking AI talent.
OpenAI’s move places it in closer competition with LinkedIn, a platform co-founded by early OpenAI investor Reid Hoffman and owned by Microsoft, OpenAI’s largest financial backer. LinkedIn has also been integrating AI to enhance job matching and candidate recommendations.
In addition to the jobs platform, OpenAI will begin offering certifications through its online education initiative, OpenAI Academy. A pilot for OpenAI Certifications is scheduled to launch in late 2025.
The credentials will assess levels of “AI fluency” and are intended to prepare individuals for employment in AI-related roles.
The certification effort is part of OpenAI’s involvement in the White House’s initiative to expand AI literacy across the U.S. The company has partnered with Walmart to support this program and aims to certify 10 million Americans by 2030.
As concerns grow over AI’s impact on traditional jobs, OpenAI acknowledges that widespread disruption is likely. However, the company emphasizes its role in preparing workers for the change by equipping them with relevant skills and facilitating connections with employers.
