Google DeepMind Warns Applicants Its AI Could Reject Their Resumes By Mistake

The team reportedly told applicants to use an internal form that could increase the odds of a human reviewing their application.

Google DeepMind’s AGI Safety and Alignment Team is reportedly warning job applicants that the company’s AI resume-screening system can incorrectly reject applications.

According to Bloomberg, the team shared an internal document directing applicants to a separate form that could increase the chance their application is reviewed by a human. The document reportedly warned that there was a “non-trivial probability” of a CV being screened out incorrectly and asked that the guidance not be widely shared.

AI Screening Could Keep Applicants From Humans

The warning comes as employers increasingly use AI to screen resumes and manage large volumes of applications. In this case, members of an AI safety team appear to be acknowledging that Google’s automated screening can make mistakes before a recruiter reviews an application.

The guidance raises questions about whether qualified candidates are being filtered out by AI hiring systems without reaching a human reviewer.
