Coworking Membership Prices Hit $340 A Month In The Most Expensive U.S. Market

New York, Albany and Bend rank among the priciest markets, while cities across the Midwest and South offer some of the lowest rates.

The cost of coworking varies sharply across the U.S., with monthly membership prices ranging from $129 in several smaller and midsize markets to $340 in Anchorage, Alaska.

The findings come from a new CoworkingCafe analysis of coworking listings across U.S. metro areas. The report examined monthly memberships, day passes, meeting rooms and virtual offices, highlighting how much companies can pay depending on where they operate and how they use flexible workspace.

Anchorage Has The Most Expensive Coworking

Anchorage had the highest median monthly coworking membership at $340, nearly 80% above the national median of $190.

Albany, New York, followed at $285, while Bend, Oregon, came in at $282. El Paso, Texas, had a median of $267.50, followed by Myrtle Beach, South Carolina-North Carolina, at $260.

New York City was also among the more expensive markets, with a $250 median, although its large supply of 288 priced properties makes it an outlier compared with many of the smaller markets at the expensive end.

At the other end, Canton-Massillon, Ohio; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Greensboro-High Point, North Carolina; Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin, South Carolina; and Jackson, Mississippi all had median monthly membership prices of $129.

Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Mobile, Alabama, followed at $139, while Appleton, Wisconsin, had a $144.50 median.

Day Passes Tell A Different Story

Day passes had a national median of $31, ranging from $20 in Deltona-Daytona Beach, Florida, and Syracuse, New York, to $50 in Louisville, Kentucky-Indiana; Lubbock, Texas; and Richmond, Virginia.

That difference can determine whether a membership makes financial sense.

Across the markets where both prices were available, a monthly membership cost about the same as 6.5 day passes. Someone using coworking more than roughly one and a half days per week would generally get better value from a membership, while less frequent users could save with day passes.

Meeting Rooms Can Add Thousands To The Bill

Meeting rooms had a national median of $45 per hour. Santa Maria-Santa Barbara, California, was the most expensive market at $80 per hour, while Deltona-Daytona Beach, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Wichita, Kansas, had the lowest median at $25.

At the national median, a two-hour meeting every week would cost roughly $4,700 a year.

That makes meeting-room usage an important part of the coworking calculation, particularly for companies that maintain a hybrid workforce and use flexible space primarily for periodic team gatherings.

Hybrid Teams Can Spend Less

The analysis also compared coworking costs for teams of five, 10 and 25 employees under different usage models.

A hybrid arrangement combining memberships for 80% of employees with four day passes per month for the remaining 20% was cheaper in 65 of 66 markets. At national benchmark prices, it saved about $188 per employee annually compared with giving everyone a membership.

The gap between markets remained substantial. For a 10-person hybrid team, annual per-person costs ranged from $2,724 in Deltona-Daytona Beach to $5,052 in Bend.

The findings point to a simple reality for companies buying flexible workspace: where employees work can have a major impact on what coworking costs, but how often they use it can be just as important.
