These Are the Top US Cities For Hiring Remote Software Engineers

A new report from interview technology firm Karat shows that Houston was named among the top cities in Texas to hire remote software engineers.

Houston ranked number 6 out of the top 10, falling five spots from the same report in 2020.

Karat used analysis from technical interviews to determine each city’s ranking, examining candidate aspects such as project discussions, coding performance, knowledge of computer science, cloud architectures, and more over an hour-long interview.

Pittsburgh ranked number one, with 40% of those who participated in the technical interviews receiving a passing score.

Austin is the one other Texas city that was ranked on Karat’s list, clocking in at number 7 after ranking number 6 in 2020.

“Interestingly, despite some high-profile tech organizations eyeing Texas as a new hub, the state’s average pass-through rates saw little change in 2021,” Karat stated.

Rounding out the top five were Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Portland, and Atlanta, respectively.
