Apple App Store Reports Reveal Its Power In This Economy – But Is Regulation Needed?

Reports from Apple show its success as the ruler of the app store economy as governments seek to push forward new legislation targeting tech giants.

And it appears that the research from Analysis Group mostly supports this theory.

In 2021, developers that joined Apple’s App Store economy included 24% from Europe, 23% from China, 14% from the US, and 4.3% from Japan. Although this reveals just how much influence the App Store has on economies worldwide, it simultaneously supports the idea that more regulation and competition are needed.

That is what has led Congress to move forward with bills to regulate app stores, while the EU is in the works of passing the Digital Market Act that will enact obligations for app store gatekeepers.
