Workers Are Coming Into The Office Once A Week Much To The Chagrin Of CEOs

Despite major corporations setting definitive return-to-office dates, new data suggests that this system may not be working.

According to data from workplace occupancy firm Basking.io, half of global office visits came to just once a week during 2022’s second quarter, an increase from the 44% seen during the first quarter.

Although the shift to a hybrid work model assumes employees come into the office two to three days a week, workers are adamant that coming in once a day is enough. Still, that isn’t stopping companies from establishing rigid (sometimes slightly threatening) policies.

For instance, Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently informed staff that “remote work is no longer acceptable” and that employees must return to the company’s main office a minimum of 40 hours per week or “depart” the company.

However, despite the number of days in the office dropping, the data showed that the duration of visits grew — an indication that workers are likely to value their time in the office when not required to be in a specific number of days.
