Layoffs, turnover, hiring sprees: it’s clear that the workforce is tumultuous.
However, there may be a clearer path forward according to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to the new report, unemployed people were able to find new jobs in just over two months in July, an increase from the three-and-a-half months seen the year prior.
“Everyone’s paying attention to what’s happening in the economy right now,” said Christine Cruzvergara, chief education strategy officer at career network Handshake.
“Hiring managers know a potential recession is coming, and people are getting laid off. They understand that; it’s a human thing, and many have been in that boat.”
Although many headlines have indicated that the threat of layoffs are near, the state of today’s workforce is at a crossroads.
The Great Resignation has yet to fully loosen its grip and flexible job openings are still fruitful.
Last week, the Wall Street Journal stated that there are two job openings for every unemployed American, making finding a new position relatively simple.
While other data from the Labor Department shows that unemployment benefits slightly grew in August, they are rising at a much slower pace which indicates that these people are out of a job for a short time.
