A digital nomad is someone who works remotely from their computer and travels around the world while doing so due to the flexibility that this style of working allows for. Â
It’s estimated that the number of digital nomads around the world is around 50 million currently. These workers can now apply for a digital nomad visa in more than 25 countries around the world, and that number is growing daily — Portugal just announced it would grant visas to these workers. Â
But who exactly are these traveling remote workers?Â
According to the Nomad List in their report “The 2022 State of Digital Nomads,” the average digital nomad is 33 years old, single, white, heterosexual and male. They usually have at least a bachelor’s degree, work as a software developer, and earn an average of $85,000 annually. The average nomad stays in a country for about 8 months.   Â
Also according to the report, 48% of digital nomads are full-time employees, and only 22% of nomads make less than $50,000 a year. The majority earns between $50,000 and $250,000 annually. 61% prefer to work from a home office, while only 16% prefer a coworking space and an even smaller percentage (9%) work from cafes.Â
