Northeastern States Named Best For Digital Nomads

While Digital nomadism has been gaining popularity around the world, those who are working within the U.S. might find that some states better cater to their remote work lifestyles than others.  

A recent survey conducted by firm Bluepillow evaluated important factors for remote working, like the number of available Wi-Fi hotspots, and named Massachusetts as the best state for digital nomads.

According to an overview of the study published by Digital Journal, Massachusetts leads the pack with an impressive range of resources for wandering workers. The state offers over 12,000 free Wi-Fi hotspots and 176 coworking spaces.

Other metrics considered by Bluepillow included climate factors, food and beverage consumption, and crime rates. All the factors went into developing the Digital Nomad Index Score, which was used to compare the states.

This comprehensive approach to assessing states’ suitability for remote work reflects a broader trend: the growing importance of environmental and lifestyle factors in where traveling professionals choose to work.

New Jersey and Connecticut followed Massachusetts, taking the number 2 and 3 spot on the list, respectively. Both states also offer robust support for digital nomads through their own offerings of coworking spaces and Wi-Fi hotspots.

Accomodations for digital nomads are sprouting up in countries around the world, with entire businesses being created for this purpose. As the nature of work evolves, with increasing emphasis on flexibility and work-life balance, the demand for such supportive ecosystems is likely to grow.  

States that invest in infrastructure and create a welcoming environment for remote workers can expect to attract a dynamic, skilled workforce that contributes to economic growth and innovation.
