Remote work continues to lead job seekers’ preferences this year. A recent FlexJobs study reveals that 83% of applicants are more likely to apply for roles offering remote options, surpassing even salary and schedule flexibility in importance. Overall, 97% of respondents favor either fully remote or hybrid work arrangements, while only 3% seek full-time, in-office positions.

Rapid Growth Across Diverse Fields

Remote job postings have increased by 8% in recent months, with some industries seeing even faster growth. FlexJobs identified the ten fastest-growing fields for fully remote roles during the first half of 2025, excluding traditionally remote-heavy sectors like IT and customer service. Emerging areas include education, administrative work, social media, data entry, marketing, writing, account management, legal, sales, and advertising and public relations. Notably, education, administrative, and social media roles more than doubled in remote job postings.

How to Find and Secure Fully Remote Jobs

Job seekers should focus on targeted, strategic searches using remote-specific job boards and company career pages, while also tapping into professional networks to uncover hidden opportunities. It’s crucial to verify that positions are genuinely 100% remote, paying attention to details about office presence requirements or travel expectations.

Success in remote roles depends on developing a mix of skills, including digital literacy, effective communication, time management, and adaptability. These skills enable employees to collaborate smoothly across virtual teams while managing independent workloads. Many can be learned through online courses, volunteering, or self-directed projects.

When applying, candidates should tailor resumes and cover letters to emphasize relevant remote work experience and skills that demonstrate readiness for virtual environments.

What to Ask in Remote Job Interviews

During interviews, candidates should gather information about remote work logistics to ensure the role fits their needs. Questions about equipment provision, onboarding processes, communication methods, and how remote employees stay connected help clarify what working remotely at the company will look like.

The Future of Remote Work is Bright

With remote jobs expanding across new fields, 2025 offers promising opportunities for those who understand current trends and invest in skill-building. Staying informed, searching strategically, and preparing thoughtfully will help job seekers secure rewarding fully remote positions in the months and years ahead.
