Moldova has launched a new digital nomad visa program, allowing remote workers to live and work in the country for up to two years. Starting September 20, 2025, the program will target foreigners who work remotely for employers or clients based outside Moldova, including freelancers, employees, and business owners.
Applicants must show a monthly income between US$1,500 and $2,000, making Moldova one of the more affordable European countries offering such visas, according to Globe Trender. To apply, candidates need to provide proof of remote work, a clean criminal record, medical insurance for one year, and evidence of accommodation in Moldova.
Once approved, visa holders must register locally with migration authorities and may receive local identity cards for longer stays. The visa can be extended in some cases up to five years through local registration.
Moldova joins several neighboring countries like Romania, Hungary, Montenegro, and Slovenia in competing to attract digital nomads. With its low cost of living, growing coworking spaces in the capital Chișinău, and reliable internet, Moldova aims to appeal to remote workers looking for affordable European options outside traditional hotspots.
