Half of U.S. Employees Now Use AI at Work

About 41% of employees say their employer has integrated AI into operations, a modest rise from the prior quarter.

Artificial intelligence use in the workplace continues to expand, with new data from Gallup showing that 50% of employed Americans now use AI in their role at least a few times a year. That figure is up from 46% in the previous quarter.

Frequent use is also growing. Thirteen percent of employees say they use AI daily, while 28% report using it at least a few times a week.

Organizational rollout is increasing more gradually. About 41% of employees say their employer has integrated AI into operations, a modest rise from the prior quarter.

Employees in these organizations are more likely to report changes in how work is structured. Over a quarter say their workplace has experienced significant disruption in the past year, compared to 17% at companies without AI.

Hiring and Layoffs Both Increase

AI adoption is linked to more movement in staffing. Employees at AI-enabled organizations are more likely to report both hiring and layoffs.

  • 34% say their company is expanding its workforce, compared to 28% at non-AI organizations
  • 23% report reductions, compared to 16% where AI is not in use

Among the largest employers, the pattern shifts. At organizations with more than 10,000 employees, workforce reductions slightly outpace hiring.

Concerns about job loss are also rising. Eighteen percent of workers say their job could be eliminated within five years due to AI, increasing to 23% among those in AI-adopting organizations.

Productivity Gains Stay Task-Focused

Most employees using AI report improvements in productivity. Sixty-five percent say it helps them work more efficiently, though the impact is often limited to specific tasks like writing, summarizing, or brainstorming.

Broader changes remain limited. Only about one in 10 employees strongly agree that AI has fundamentally changed how work gets done in their organization.

While many employees are using AI and seeing efficiency gains, most organizations have not yet changed how work is structured at a broader level.
