  • Workit Spaces is set to launch their third coworking location in Australia in November.
  • The new space has been designed with in-built health and safety measures.
  • Wider corridors of 2.5 metres and an air conditioning system that kills pathogens with UV light are among the specific Covid-safe measures.

Despite the dramatic increase in working from home, Workit Spaces is set to open their third eCommerce Hub, a coworking space dedicated to eCommerce businesses, in November.

With ongoing concerns about health and safety, especially in high-traffic workplaces, the new space has been designed with specific Covid-safe measures.

Sam Kerfoot, Operations and Project Manager for Workit Spaces’s Bourke Rd eCommerce Hub in Alexandria, Sydney, said that health and safety was a major consideration in all factors of the design.

“While ensuring safety and comfort are critical for the development of any workplace environment, these were prioritised and carefully considered in light of COVID-19 throughout the design of the new eCommerce Hub. We made it our priority to ensure that the new office and showroom space incorporates key design measures and modern technology to maximize the user experience, creating an environment where members of the Workit community feel safe, productive and connected.”

Workit Spaces will install an air conditioning system that kills pathogens with UV light and reduces humidity to prevent germs from multiplying.

Common areas, such as the kitchen, will be built with antimicrobial surfaces and copper handles, a naturally microbe-repellent material.

To facilitate social distancing, corridors will be 2.5 metres wide, screen partitions will separate spaces, and meeting rooms will be spacious enough to easily allow all users to spread apart.

More traditional safety measures such as thermal body scanners and touchless hand sanitisation will be part of the space as well.

“As the business expands, we will continue to deliver projects that achieve the best results for the members of the Workit community, by ensuring performance, wellness and safety through clever design,” said Mr Kerfoot.

The new eCommerce Hub will be 9,000sqm, 3,000sqm initially and 6,000sqm to be added soon after, and will house up to 350 eCommerce businesses, including enterprise businesses with up to 200 employees.

The space is on track to be carbon neutral by early next year with inclusions such as solar panels and battery storage.

On top of desks, offices and meeting rooms, the eCommerce coworking spaces have showrooms, warehousing, loading docks, goods in and out stations, photography studios, business support services, a café, bar and distillery.
