New research from ADP Research indicates that on-site working may have more benefits than remote working.
The On-site, Remote or Hybrid: Employee Sentiment on the Workplace report used data from 9,000 employees and identified which benefits on-site employees working may gain over their remote working counterparts.
Such advantages included the social interaction between coworkers, having distinct boundaries between home and work life, and better career opportunities.
In fact, the report showed that 77% of on-site workers are more likely to have ad hoc conversations compared to 60% of remote workers. Remote working has also been linked to longer hours, with ADP finding that remote employees work one hour longer on average every day.
For working parents, juggling both childcare responsibilities and home-schooling has led their normal work hours to be disrupted, leading them to work in the evenings.
However, a study of over 30,000 U.S. workers found that working from one day each day can enhance productivity by 4.8%, mostly due to the time saved from not commuting.
“Given the upsides and downsides of on-site work, a ‘hybrid’ option – working part on-site and part remote – may actually provide workers with most advantageous characteristics of both on-site and remote working,” the ADP report stated.
