Going to work may have adopted a whole new meaning.
Thanks to recent advancements, some tech companies are trying to create a way for people to attend the workplace without sitting at their desk. Instead, their computer would be strapped on a headset.
Although there are various ways in which companies are trying to make this more of a reality, the bottom line is to provide professionals with the ability to have access to their computer screen without having coworkers looking over your shoulder.
One example of company’s dipping their toes into wearable computers is Facebook’s attempt to use Oculus Quest more immersive meetings and collaborative sessions in the workplace.
However, it should be mentioned that while these headsets may be convenient, they share several downsides and are far from being the norm in the workplace. There are many kinks that must be worked out before they hit the mainstream, including comfort and price.
“The people who are getting these now are technophiles who are willing to say ‘Hey, I’m going to take it, warts and all,’” said Ramon Llamas, a research director at market research firm IDC. “It’s probably not going to be until the third or fourth revision that we start seeing more mass-market interest.”
