Facebook has revealed it will hire 10,000 new employees in the European Union in order to help push its plans to create a metaverse.
Over the next five years, the social media giant will bring on workers that will help it create a platform that will merge both augmented and virtual reality.
“As we begin the journey of bringing the metaverse to life, the need for highly specialized engineers is one of Facebook’s most pressing priorities,” wrote Nick Clegg, vice president of global affairs, and Javier Olivan, vice president of central products, in a blog post.
Recruiters will look to France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain for new talent.
The metaverse creates a virtual environment that can enhance the remote and hybrid work experience, allowing users to hold meetings and interact with colleagues in a more engaging way.
However, there are concerns about Facebook and other tech giants monopolizing the metaverse and using it to collect and profit off of user data — again.
