Are Digital Nomads Here To Stay (1)

The past 18 months led to an uptick in what was once a far-fetched, niche population of digital nomads.

As millions of more people had the opportunity to work remotely, professionals packed their bags and went to fulfill their wanderlust dreams. However, as offices slowly reopen, will people opt to continue traveling, or return to their desk?

According to HSBC’s Expat Explorer report, 80% of 20,000 expats plan to stay in their host country for at least the next 12 months.

Among the countries with the highest number of expats, Switzerland ranked number one, followed by Austria, New Zealand, the UAE, Channel Islands, Guernsey and Jersey.

The study finds that international travel restrictions are not hindering the optimism of expats.

In fact, regions such as Cyprus, Portugal, and Spain were found to be the best countries when it comes to quality of life. In terms of wellbeing, Greece was ranked number one, followed by Spain, Portugal, and Turkey.

“When we asked if they expected improvements to their physical health and mental wellbeing in the next 12 months, Mediterranean countries scored well,” said Cameron Senior, interim head of HSBC Expat.
