WeWork has plans to double its coworking spaces in India to 6 million square feet in the new year, with plans to expand into cities like Chennai, Pune, and Hyderabad.
“In India, WeWork started the year with over 5,000 desks and is closing it with 35,000 desks across 21 locations,” said Karan Virwani Karan, chief WeWork India executive officer. “With a member base of 20,000 in India, we are selling 2,000 desks a month,”
They entered the Indian market in 2016 and now currently manage 3 million square feet across Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Gurgaon.
WeWork India contributed 10% of the total members to its global business in 2018. This year alone, the company has added 18 locations in India, with 52% of demand coming from enterprises.
Additionally, WeWork Labs offers dedicated space and services for startups and plans on expanding to 10 locations in the new year.
WeWork is the largest occupier of office space in Manhattan, London, and Washington D.C. with 400,000 members across 26 countries. In 2018, WeWork expanded into eight new countries, 34 new cities, and 200 new locations.
