Workplace technology affects how we work, communicate and collaborate. As technology continues to advance, work hours have become more flexible and the generation gap is further deepening. 2019 is bound set a technological precedent.

Millennials are the largest generation of the U.S. workforce, so the divide between them and Baby Boomers is expected to expand. Generation Z is also up and coming, so companies are expected to further tailor their models to accommodate the new generation.

Ensuring that millennials are valued beyond driving revenue is vital for retention. An intranet is a good way to engage this generation of employees and letting them know they are having an impact on the work environment.

Consolidating the proper collaboration and communication tools is key to creating a synchronized work environment. Being able to share messages and content, as well as collaborate on projects help reduce clutter and confusion.

Companies should also keep in mind how employees engage via mobile and desktop devices to meet the particular needs of each worker. For example, business can pick and choose which content is available remotely, as well as content that can only be accessed in the workplace.

Chatbots and digital assistants are expected to become a more integral part of workplaces. These programs can offer simply enterprise search and proper communication within each company.

Overall, finding the right balance between engaging employees and what the company needs is tricky, but doable.
