WeWork is being sued by two former execs who have allegedly faced age and gender discrimination. Richard Markel, the 62-year-old former vice president of the company, said he was discriminated against due to his age.
Markel started working at WeWork in 2018 after it acquired part of a construction company he worked for. Once he was hired, WeWork hired someone 20 years younger than him and soon stopped being invited to company meetings.
Lisa Bridges, a former WeWork executive, is suing for gender discrmination after reporting evidence of gender pay discrimination at the company. Bridges said that a woman working the same job as a man at WeWork’s UK offices made a salary of $85,000, while the man made $123,000.
After reporting her findings to WeWork, Bridges said that she too stopped being invited to meetings and was put on leave for breaching the company’s confidentiality policy.
