A new study from Regus has offered insight into the positive environmental impact that coworking spaces have on local economies across 19 countries between now and 2029.
In India, carbon saving is expected to see a reduction of 181,000 metric tonnes each year. With more coworking spaces moving to secondary cities and suburban areas, the Suburban Economic Study found that by 2029, ‘outer city’ offices will reduce carbon emissions equal to 1,280,000 transatlantic flights between London and New York each year.
Providing a chance for people to work closer to home also saves 9,532 hours per year in reduced commute times, which is equivalent to a reduction of 54 metric tonnes of carbon emissions.
“Commuting can be uncomfortable, unfriendly, and incredibly time-consuming. It is also a huge source of global pollution,” said Mark Dixon, CEO for IWG. “In an age where every business and an individual have a responsibility for their environmental impact in the world, commuting into major cities is keeping them away from fulfilling their responsibility.”
