After a Meetup employee tested positive for coronavirus, WeWork has temporarily closed its 12 East 49th Street office. The employee had not been in the office since last Thursday and started showing symptoms on Friday.
“As a result, Meetup has instituted a mandatory work from home policy for all NYC employees and they will not be in the building until further notice,” said Tom O’Boyle, a member of WeWork’s community team.
Boyle added that WeWork would close the third floor of the building that Meetup occupies, as well as the 18th floor common space, to sanitize the areas.
This is the fifth WeWork-occupied building to be impacted by the virus. Just last week, the coworking operator closed its 575 Lexington Avenue location after a tenant contracted the virus, but has since reopened.
Other locations the company has closed include a building in Seattle, and two properties in Wuhan, China, where the outbreak originated.
