As the world adapts to hybrid strategies – a mix of both digital and physical components – one possible working future that’s becoming increasingly hard to ignore involves the metaverse.
It’s a buzzword, yes, but it’s also a very real scenario for the future of work.
A metaverse is an artificial universe made possible by AR and VR technology. Imagine donning a VR headset and ‘attending’ a business event, meeting people and even presenting, as if you were there in person. Difference is, you’re there virtually while your physical self is at home, or in your office.
This concept could dramatically transform hybrid work and bring even more flexibility into our working lives.
One company is making this idea a reality. New World Events creates VR office spaces for companies, allowing remote workers to come in for meetings virtually and even sit in their own cubicle.
The technology is here, and it’s being used, although adoption is still in its infancy. But in a few short years, it could become yet another part of our ‘new normal’.
