A new survey from Airbnb reveals insight into what workers want from the workplace as companies attempt to bring them back into the office. Â
The survey of 7,500 consumers across five countries showed that 63% anticipate more flexibility to be offered as companies adjust their in-office policies due to the pandemic.Â
Airbnb also found that 71% of respondents were interested in traveling or are currently booking a new trip as travel restrictions loosen up around the world. Â
Over half of respondents said they hoped to travel during off-peak times at their workplace, while 53% stated being more open to spontaneous trips than they were pre-pandemic. Additionally, 37% said they were seeking long-stay travel since their new work arrangements provide them with more flexible hours.Â
Those looking for long-term stays outside of their homes said they wanted to work remotely in areas with warmer weather, including Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, and the South Florida Atlantic Coast. Â
Travelers are also looking for accomodations with tools needed for remote working, with the top requested amenity being WiFi, followed by pet-friendly spaces, kitchens, and access to washers and dryers. In fact, inquiries into pet-friendly accommodations grew by 128% from 2019 to 2021.Â
After years of staying in one location and now having the freedom to work and travel, lodging online marketplaces like Airbnb have pivoted their services to highlight their work-friendly environments. By offering resources needed to work from an Airbnb, owners on the platform are able to expand their customer base beyond those just looking to take a vacation.Â
