Meta will open its first permanent store in Burlingame, California, allowing customers to purchase their virtual reality products and solidify its role in the metaverse.
The 1,550 square foot storefront will open on May 9 near the Meta Reality Labs research campus.
“The Meta Store is going to help people make that connection to how our products can be the gateway to the metaverse in the future,” said Martin Gilliard, head of Meta Store.
The shop will allow customers to test out games on the Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality headset, featuring a floor-to-ceiling LED screen that projects what the headset user is seeing.
Portal, Meta’s video calling device, will also be displayed on wooden shelves in the shop, giving customers the ability to try it out in a demo area with store representatives.
Additionally, a separate cubicle will allow people to test out Meta’s Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses. While the glasses will not be available for purchase in the shop, customers can order them from Ray Ban’s website.
“We’re not selling the metaverse in our store, but hopefully people will come in and walk out knowing a little bit more about how our products will help connect them to it,” said Gilliard.
